Macau, China, 3 Feb - Macau's merchandise exports in 2009 fell 52.1 percent year-on-year to 7.67 billion patacas (US$ 960 million) , the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reported on Tuesday.The domestic exports dropped 69 percent and re-exports declined 27 percent during 2009. According to the DSEC re-exports accounted for 61.3 percent of all exports. Exports to the United States decreased 79,6 percent, to the European Union 60,3 percent and to mainlan China 43,2 percent. The DSEC also said that garment and textiles exports dropped 73 percent compared 2008. During the same period merchandise imports fell 14.2 percent to 36.90 billion patacas ( US$ 4.62 million). While Macau's imports from mainland China dropped 31.5 percent, those from the European Union rose 10.1 percent. Japan and the United States had a share of 8.2 percent and six percent of Macau's total imorts, respectively. The trade deficit amounted to 29.23 billion patacas (US$3.66 billion), widening from 27.01 billion patacas deficit in 2008. (MacauNews) |
